What went wrong with team Tigers?

An agonizing defeat in the last ball of the match against the West Indies has put down the confidence of the team tigers that they showed against Australia and New Zealand in their home conditions. Moreover, nothing is going well for them.

A yorker-length ball from Andre Russell to defend four runs in the last ball of the match helped West Indies secure their first win in this T20 World Cup 2021 as the skipper of team tigers failed to connect it.

Both the teams didn’t play good cricket. There were misfields, a couple of drop chances, some fifty-fifty chances, and also a few chances of run-outs. In the end, team tigers couldn’t hold their nerve and the match slipped from their hands.

Bangladesh bowlers bowled tightly till 15 overs, especially Taskin and Shoriful were brilliant with their spell. But the cutter master Fizz was quite expensive in his last over. He alone conceded 43 runs in his four overs spell.

Nicholas Pooran’s 40 off 22 balls along with death bowling spells from Russell, Bravo, Ravi helped them secure the first victory of the super 12 round and kept their hopes to stay alive in this tournament so far.

On the other hand, Liton’s slow effort, irresponsible batting performance from Mushi while the match was in tigers’ hands, poor bowling from Mustafizur, a dropped catch from Mahedi, all over worst efforts in all the departments on the ground dropped them down to the bottom of the table with no wins from three games.

Mushfiqur Rahim, the dependable cannot be depended on more after getting out twice in this world cup while playing scoop in the critical phases of the game. He tried to play a scoop against Rampaul in this game but the slower one struck straight on the stumps just after playing a superb square-cut earlier in that over.

This was a game-changing moment for Bangladesh. His dismissal left Bangladesh 90 for 4 in the 14th over of the match. He did the same mistake in the Scotland match. Maybe the scoop isn’t working for him anymore.

Here’s what Mahmudullah said after the match:

“ think Liton’s wicket was very crucial because we were both set. If that would have been six… that’s probably one advantage when you have tall fielders. Having said that, bowlers did quite a good job but we missed a few chances that cost 10-15 runs. We tried (to go harder at the top) but the wicket wasn’t one where you could hit. When you bowled back of length it was hard to score. The bowlers did a good job, but it’s the batting… but it was a close game, we can’t blame batters or bowlers, in T20 cricket some games you win, some you lose. (Dropping catches) that is an issue, we need to do better.”

Keeping in mind, Bangladesh couldn’t win a single game in the World Cup stage of this format against a test-playing nation for the last 12 years.
