United wins Manchester Derby, a drawn Madrid Derby helps Barca in La Liga

Manchester city’s 14 match winning run in Premier League came to an end last night. They lost the Manchester derby to their city rival United at home by 0-2.

Meanwhile at La Liga, Atletico and Real’s Madrid derby ended up in a 1-1 draw, which helps Barcelona to shrunk the point distance between them and current leader Atletico Madrid.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were in a tremendous form in recent times before last night. They were unbeaten in last 20 Premier League games in a row before last night’s Manchester derby. Moreover, they had earn full three points in their last 14 league games as well.

But they couldn’t manage to carry their blasting form against United last night. In fact, Manchester United stunned Manchester City by defeating their rivals 2-0 in their premier league clash at Etihad Stadium.

Man U, the visitors were on their game from the kickoff. United were rewarded a penalty in the very first minute when Jesus brought down Martial in the box with a clumsy challenge. Bruno Fernandes successfully converted that penalty in a goal and United took an early lead.

Even though, City pressed hard for an equaliser in the rest of first-half, but lacked a clinical edge in the fornt three.

Instead of an early equaliser, City conceded another one in start of second half as well. This time United’s full-back Luke Shaw scored from an excellent counter and took his team to a decent 2-0 lead.

Manchester City tried really hard in rest of the second-half, but no clinical edge fron their front three retained the scoreline 0-2 till the end.

Moreover, this was City’s first defeat since November 2020 (0-2 vs Spurs). Still they are leading by 11 points in the Premier League table, but they need to be a bit cautious in rest of their league games to secure their league title.

Meanwhile at La Liga, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid’s Madrid derby ended up in a 1-1 draw at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.

Atletico’s long wait for a league win over Real Madrid goes on. Former Barca striker Luize Suarez gave the home side a 1-0 lead inside 15 minutes. But their city rival fought back and late on through Benzema, who had been denied by an excellent double save from Oblak shortly before.

In fact, that draw at Madrid derby works as a win for Barcelona in the point table. Now, Barca with 56 points is only three points behind of league leader Atletico.

Even though, Real Madrid with 54 points is not far behind from them as well. However, the Spanish top three are suggesting a dramatic ending for 2020-21 La Liga title race.
