UEFA Champions League: Manchester United vs Juventus match Preview

UEFA Champions League group H topper Juventus will visit Manchester United at Old Trafford on Tuesday night. So far, this could be the most thrilling contest from this particular group.

Indeed, this match is Ronaldo’s returning to his spiritual home. Of course, he is in the enemy’s side for the home crow. But there is no doubt about that Cristiano Ronaldo developed from a boy to man at Old Trafford.

Manchester United

After a horrific start of their Premier League season, Jose Mourinho’s men have been able to make a good start in UCL. So far, they beat the Young Boys in their first match and draw the other away game against Valencia.

A week ago, Red devil boss Jose Mourinho was in tremendous pressure. Even after two favourable games in last week’s Premier League fixture, the question of his sacking is still on. So, he has to prove a lot of things to remain as a manager of Manchester United.

Jose can be hopeful with the recent performance from his disciples. It’s really excellent for the home side to see Anthony Martial scoring twice at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Although, Romelo Lukaku is still struggling to bring his international form for his club. But Juan Mata and Rashford’s recent form is linings the Red Devil fans a bit.

Perhaps, it seems like Paul Pogba wants to back his manager as well. His last few appearances in the Red jersey tells us so. He might not be in the scoresheet, but his effort was flawless in last few matches.

There are other stats that can bring a little smile on the faces of United fans. Except for the 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid in 2012-13, United have won their last 21 European games at Old Trafford.

Juventus

Indeed, Juventus is enjoying their best times in all sort of competitions so far in this season. They had a 10-match winning streak across all competitions until that 1-1 draw against Genoa on Saturday. But Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri doesn’t need to worry a lot about that draw while his team is having a run of 22 defeatless games since last November.

There is no doubt that Juventus was in the limelight throughout the last few seasons. But Ronaldo’s signing brings them on the top of this year. Although the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is yet to show his best in the Juventus jersey, his presence in the pitch is something special for any team.

Ronaldo was shown a straight red card against Valencia in Juve’s Champions League opener, but a disciplinary panel limited the suspension to one match, making him available for this thrilling clash against his former club.

If Ronaldo was out of the bench for this match, Juve coach Allegri wouldn’t seem in a massive trouble at all. Allegri had a strong alternative bench with players like Paulo Dybala, Pjanic, Matuidi, Mandzukic, Cuadrado, Douglas Costa.
