After a great deal of batting display from both sides, the first Test match of SL vs BAN 2021 Test series ended as a draw.
There could have been a late drama in the last session, but persistent rain forced umpires to call off the game.
However, it was a tremendous effort from Bangladesh in the Test cricket in a while. Let’s focus on some individual achievements from this first Test.
Aggressive and confident Tamim
Tamim Iqbal was brilliant in this match. We miss this kind of batting from him in quite a while. He could have easily scored his 10th Test ton if didn’t lose his temper on 90 in the first innings.
He was more outstanding in the second innings as well. He made his fifty in the second innings while his side has just 52 runs in total on the board. He broke a 131 years old record to reach the fifty on the lowest team total.
Brilliant comeback from Taskin
Taskin Ahmed didn’t feature in the Bangladesh Test side for almost 4 years. He had some injury issues in this particular period, but he was never a consistent performer with the ball for his side before he made his comeback in New Zealand last February.
Taskin bowled brilliantly in this match. Bowling 30 overs on a flat track under extreme heat is not an easy task for a pacer in particular. But he bowled in a consistent line and length with a decent pace as well.
He has shown some mature effort with the ball which was missing in the early phase of his career. It will be wonderful for Bangladesh if he can carry on this sort of performance regularly in the future.
A Self-proving innings from Shanto
It’s been a while that Najmul Hasan Shanto is regularly featuring in the Bangladesh Test side. However, he failed to prove his calibre till this match.
Shanto played a perfect Test knock in the first inning. Of course, it was a run flowing flat track, but he has maintained his patients tremendously.
His 163 runs knock in the first inning was a kind of wake up call for his career. He has to conserve this sort of batting for the rest of this tour and the tours to come.
Bangladesh’s Test Captain Mominul Haque was in a run drought for quite a while. However, he managed to get his rhythm back with an impressive hundred in the first innings.
His 127 runs knock in the first inning was a kind of performance that a side wants regularly from a number-three batsman.
