After the second T20 hiccup, India again lost yesterday’s match to Sri Lanka in a low-scoring match. The Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga alone crushed down the Indian batting order with his fiery bowling spell of 4 for 9 in four overs and an unbeaten 14 off 9 balls. He was also awarded the Player of the Match and Player of the Series.
The way India started and finished the series, Indian fans can’t even consider the players’ performances in their dreams. Due to coronavirus, the Indian team was forced to play 4 debutants in the second T20 and this has led them far from their best team combination.
Keeping in mind, Krunal Pandya, the Indian all-rounder, tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.
After winning the toss, the Indian skipper, Shikhar Dhawan decided to bat first. He was looking very confident to make a positive start for his team and has been dismissed for a golden duck.
Devdutt and Gaikwad tried to march ahead with optimum control but went in vain in front of Ramesh Mendis’s magic. From then Hasaranga wrecked the top order by dismissing Sanju Samson (0) and Gaikwad (14) in a space of three balls. The Indian batsmen clearly showed their weakness against spin.
In the first powerplay, India just lost their 4 top-order batsmen and they were in big trouble. Within 9 overs they lost half of their batsmen.
After a horrible collapse, Bhuvi and Kuldeep were trying to tackle the danger. Their little partnership helped India to cross 50 runs on board.
From there on, not much was left for the Indian team and it had become a matter of time for Sri Lanka to finish the game as early as possible. Sri Lanka needed 82 runs to win the decider.
But they also started slow and after 10 overs they were 42 for 2. Finally, they won the match by seven wickets with 33 balls in hand and Deepak Chahar was the only bowler to take all these 3 wickets.
Let’s hear from players
Wanindu Hasaranga: “The wicket was slow and our spinners bowled really well. He always tries to bowl dot balls which helps him take wickets and the fielding was really good today.” He also added, “he is really happy that the boys really played well throughout both the series.”
Shikhar Dhawan: He says “he enjoyed the series, it was a difficult situation for them and it was a good series for him as a captain and he is proud of how the boys played even in the matches they lost, the players showed a lot of character. It was an off day with the bat and they will analyze it and try to improve.”
