Goodness, gracious! What an ending to this ICC World Cup Final 2019! No one can ever ask for more thrill from a Final match of a tournament. Obviously, it’s the best ever Final, perhaps it’s the best ever Cricket match from its entire history. Actually, none of the finalists have lost by a margin but England’s was lucky enough to win in the end.
This historic final was started with an interesting decision from the New Zealand captain Kane Williamson to bat first after winning the toss. New Zealand started their innings cautiously while English pacemen were in a good rhythm. New Zealand has losses wickets in a regular interval throughout their innings. That’s why they couldn’t manage to accelerate their innings till the end. But thanks to the batting-depth of their lineup, which took them to a minimum score to defend.
It was well measured during New Zealand’s innings that Lord’s wicket is not the easiest one to chase down that 241 runs. Kiwi pacer Trent Boult proved that right from the word goes with an interesting appeal for LBW. England’s in-form batting lineup became frazzled in front of the high-quality fast bowling from New Zealand. England becomes 86 for 4 in the 24th over.
Then Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler strongly responded to the situation with a 110 runs partnership. After Buttler falls apart for 59 runs, it went onto Ben Stokes’s shoulder to carry his team to over the finishing line.
England needed 15 runs from Boult’s final, Stokes was on the strike. Stokes failed to score on the first two deliveries, the game went into New Zealand’s. Then Stokes hits a huge six over long-on from the next one. After that, he tried to take a double from the fourth delivery but Guptill’s throw hits his bat on the follow-through and went for an overthrow four.
That was the turning point of the match, where England was lucky enough. But Stokes couldn’t manage to complete the double on the final delivery, where England needed two more runs to win. The Final match finished in a tie for the very first time in the Cricket history.
Then came the great dramatic ‘super-over’ climax. Where England’s Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler managed to get 15 on the board. Jofra Archer was the bowler for England to defend that Inestimable 15 runs.
Archer started with a wide and followed the next delivery conceding a double. While Jimmy Neesham hits Archer for a maximum on their ball, New Zealand started to feel that they have won the title. All the had to do was to score 2 runs from the final delivery of the super over.
But Guptill couldn’t make it by one step or two to complete the second run. The Super over was tied as well. England incredibly won its first-ever ICC World Cup Final by a margin of hitting the maximum number of boundaries in the match.
Who could have imagined this sort of unbelievable scenarios from a World Cup Final! Congratulations to England team for their historic first-ever World Cup Trophy, and take a bow New Zealand for an astonishing performance. Everyone must confess that England has been crowned by the trophy today but the ultimate winner is Cricket itself.
