Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that Chandika Hathurusingha has been reappointed as the head coach of the national side for a second spell. Hathurusingha previously held the position from 2014 to 2017 and led the team to several memorable victories, including the historic Test series win against England in 2016.
Hathurusingha, a former Sri Lankan cricketer, is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in world cricket. He has an impressive coaching record, having worked with teams like Sri Lanka, Australia, and New South Wales, among others. His appointment is expected to bring a new level of professionalism to the Bangladesh team, which has been struggling in recent times.
Under Hathurusingha’s guidance, Bangladesh cricket had seen significant improvement in those years. During his first spell, the team became more consistent in both Tests and ODIs and produced several memorable performances such as the first-ever ODI series win against Pakistan, South Africa, and India.
During his tenure, Bangladesh first reached the quarterfinals in 2015 and also registered a test victory over the Three Lions and the mighty Aussies.
He is credited with developing some of the current star players of the Bangladesh cricket team, including Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mushfiqur Rahim.
