Well, we had enough of Champions League for this week. Now it’s time to get back into the league fixtures. This time we are heading towards the German Bundesliga. This week Bundesliga is having its own version of El Clasico which is actually called Der Klassiker in German.
Bundesliga’s current table-toppers Borussia Dortmund will host the perennial title triumphal Bayern Munich on Saturday at the Signal Iduna Park.
Dortmund is in a formidable form in Bundesliga from the start of this season. After 10 league fixtures, they have been able to keep their unbeaten run with 7 wins and 3 draws. Although they have faced their first defeat of this season in all competitions against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday that won’t change their mindset for the league fixture, that’s for sure.
Literally, the Schwarzgelben are dominating the league table with their formidable combination of midfielders and forwards. In this season, Dortmund coach Lucien Favre has decorated his front line with players like Jadon Sancho, Marco Reus and Paco Alcacer.
Sancho and Alcacer have already scored 11 goals in a combine in this season of Bundesliga. Reus is showing his class which is he renowned for. But Jadon Sancho is really exposing the reasons why he is calling as the next English sensation.
Dortmund has two noticeable injury concerns for this week. Marcel Schmelzer is out of the bench with his knee injury since September, Abdou Diallo is unlikely to feature in Saturday due to his ankle injury. Although Lukas Piszczek returned to the side on Wednesday’s Madrid defeat.
Bayern Munich, the successive 6 times Bundesliga winner and the defending title winner as well, is struggling a bit to adjust with their new manager Niko Kovac. Currently, Die Roten are sitting third in the table with 4 points less than the topper BVB.
After a back-to-back defeat in Bundesliga, they have been able to recover quickly and remain unbeaten in their last 5 outings in all competitions. Last week, they have convincingly beaten the AEK Athens by 2-0 at Allianz Arena.
Lewandowski had been the star for Bayern for last few seasons, but he is yet to find his best form in this season. However, he has scored 3 goals at Signal Iduna Park against his former club. This suggests that he knows it pretty well how to score at Dortmund’s yard. And of course, James Rodriguez has to be at his best in such a crucial game like this.
Meanwhile, Bayern has confirmed three names they are surely missing on Saturday. Thiago Alcantara and Kingsley Coman both have ankle injuries, while Corentin Tolisso is out due to a knee injury.
★ These two sides have faced each other in 119 occasions in any sort of competitions so far. In which, Bayern have a healthy record of 56 wins and Dortmund have 30 victories to their name.
★ Dortmund has won just one of their last 8 league meetings against Bayern including a humiliating 6-0 defeat at Allianz Arena in their last meeting.
★Dortmund’s last victory over Bayern was way back in November 2016.
★ Bayern Munich has won 3 times out of their last 5 visits to Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
★ There is just only one goalless draw between this two sides in their last 21 meetings. So, we can with for an exciting scoring match at least.
