The BCB has declared a 31 member Bangladesh Preliminary Squad for the ACC Asia Cup 2018 to be held in UAE next month, on Tuesday. The squad was declared based on head coach Steve Rhodes wish to observe as many cricketers as possible within the national pipeline.
ICC and Asian Cricket Council have confirmed the 2018 Asia Cup schedule which will be taking place in from 15 September 2018 to 28 September 2018 in the United Arab Emirates. it will be traditional 50 over the tournament, Unlike the 2016 event which was the T20 format. Bangladesh takes on Sri Lanka in the opening game on 15 September while India plays Pakistan on 19 September.
Along with the regular members in the national team, the preliminary squad will feature a few new faces with left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam, right arm pacer Syed Khaled Ahmed and leg-spinner firstly Fazle Rabbi Mahmud be set to get a first-hand National squad experience.
The preliminary camp is scheduled to start on August 27 at the Sher-A-Bangla National stadium. the Bangladesh team for the Asia Cup is likely to leave on September 9 to enable players to cope with the tough middle Eastern conditions.
The presence of all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Nazmul Islam up for the camp is however uncertain. Shakib is likely to undergo surgery on his injured little finger off his left hand following his return from Hajj and thus required at least 2 months rehabilitating. While left-arm spinner Apu is recovering from an injury on his bowling arm sustained during the tour of West Indies earlier this month.
The Tigers lock horns in the tournament opener against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium on 15th September. Bangladesh is in group D and we’ll play their second and last group game against Afghanistan on September 20 at Sheikh Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi.
There will be six teams in the tournament with Pakistan India Sri Lanka Bangladesh and Afghanistan already confirmed while one more time will join this 5 teams via qualifiers which will be played between U A E, Hong Kong, Nepal, Singapore, Malaysia and woman.
For the Asia Cup proper six teams will be divided into two groups of three teams, each and every team play two groups games and group winners qualified for the super round. top 2 teams from both groups will qualify for the super 4 round wire teams play one game against each of the other three teams and at the end of the super for round top 2 teams qualified for the final.
