In the last few days, young cricketer’s performance graph from Bangladesh national team has been regularly irregular. BCB has to rely on Tamim, Mushfiq, Shakib, Riyad and Captain Mashrafee (in ODIs only) in every occasion. As a result, Board couldn’t afford the luxury of giving rest to the seniors. Now, the question is being asked that how prepared young guns are for the future?
Let’s start with the bowling department. Because it can be called the most promising field in Bangladesh’s cricket. In a nutshell, Rubel-Fizz pair is going to provide a long-term service. As long as Mashrafe is there, at least this pace troupe will keep us in the ODIs. The concern is for the Test and t20s. Although Mustafiz is still able to show consistency in three formats, Rubel’s Test performance (33 wickets in 25 matches) is not satisfying at all. Even the situation of t20 is not up to the mark (22 wickets in 22 matches, Economy above 9.5).
Captain Mashrafe may not be able to get himself to the ground after the next World Cup. Mashrafe’s services are being felt to be grossly in Test and t20 already. Now, is the right time to think for the third pacer to strengthening the reserve bench? We can hope for a healthy result by creating the pace bowling friendly pitches in Domestic level, and also arranging pacer hunting campaign. This is also necessary to take proper counseling steps before losing potential prospects like Taskin, Rony, and Rahi. BCB may consider Shaheed, Al-Amin for the Test too.
In the spin, Shakib, Taijul, and Meraj are consistent till now. ‘Nagin’ Apu is said to be the new sensation for the shorter version, but he requires more time to prove himself. Meraj could not keep his signature in overseas, even though he was very good at home. But if we can hold Meraj, then it is expected that Bangladesh will get better output from him.
Mushfiq, Shakib and Riyad’s batting in the middle order is the most trusted place in Bangladesh cricket. As long as these three Maestros are there, there is no tension at all. However, Afif Hasan, Pinak Ghosh or Shanto(from under 19) need to be ready from now. If possible, they can be played with the rest of the seniors against the weak opponents.
Mosaddek, Mominul, and Liton Das will be the leading batting pillars of future Bangladesh cricket. They must be properly treated. Although Shakib is now temporarily in one down, this position is the most worrisome place in Bangladesh’s cricket. Though Mominul has overcome the anxiety of this position in the Test, the deficiency remains in the other two formats. Domestic leagues need to create a suitable batsman for this position.
It’s time to think seriously about two ambitious and talented stroke-makers Sabbir and Soumya. But they should think more about themselves. In order to change the momentum of the game at any time, these two options are the best in Bangladesh Cricket Team. If there is any necessity of mental trainer’s help to bust up their confidence level, it should be done immediately.
Finally, it’s the opening pair. Here Tamim Iqbal is indomitable. But as his partner, nobody could survive for a long time. Even in the absence of Tamim, Bangladesh has not found any opener yet. Although many people talked about Anamul Haque Bijoy, considering the present Bangladesh team, Saumya or Liton might be the better competent partner of Tamim. Unfortunately, their inconsistency is also the main problem here.
The consistent performance of the experienced players has continuously secured the position of the inconsistent young guns. If there are four or five regular performers in a team, it is called a ‘Dream Team’ effortlessly. But it impossible for anybody to go and perform every day. After the retirements of Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, and Ponting, Warne, Gilchrist; India, and Australia are still leading the world cricket because of their strong support from reserve bench. Bangladesh cricket can dream of going to that level. For that, the youngsters of Bangladesh Cricket Team have the only option of practicing continuity.
